                            GENERAL INFORMATION

Activities

We provide a wide range of activities which all children are welcome, and encouraged to use, but at no time is any child forced to join in against their will. Please take home the items your child/ren have made - this kind of support is an important part of their development.

Arrivals and Departures

At the start and finish of all sessions, please wait behind the screen until access is allowed - this enables equipment to be moved safely and the children to enjoy facilities undisturbed.

Meal Times

We provide a healthy snack with milk or water to drink during the morning and afternoon sessions. If your child is allergic to anything, please let us know. Activities stop for mealtimes and children are encouraged to sit together in small groups at the table whilst they are eating. If your child is staying for lunch please bring it in a container, clearly labelled. We ask that you read our poster about how you can provide your child with a healthy lunch.

Car Parking

Please note that there are NO car parking facilities available for the Pre-school although you may stop to drop off and pick up your child from the pre-school, by parking on the road. The parking bays in Hillgarden Close are private and parking tickets will be issued (by private firm) if you try to take advantage of this.

Clothes

Please do not bring your child/ren in their ‘best’ clothes - we want them to feel free to join in, no matter how messy the activity (we do provide protective aprons etc.). Soft shoes are essential to limit any injuries to others caused by heavy footwear e.g. when on the climbing frame. We may play outside at any time of the year so please make sure that your child has had sun cream applied in the hotter months and has a coat during the colder months (labelled with your child’s name). It would be a great help if you could always bring a bag of spare clothes for your child in the event of an accident or following water play!

Fees

Fees are agreed by the committee. To speed up the registration at the start of sessions it would be helpful if fees could be paid weekly, monthly, half termly or termly. Please note there is no reduction of fees for absences. (See ‘Waiving of Fees Policy') Your child will be entitled for Early Years funding the term after their third birthday.

*Children born between 1st September & 31st December will be funded from the January following their 3rd birthday.

*Children born between 1st January & 31st March will be funded from the April following their 3rd birthday. (After the Easter Holidays)

^Children born between 1st April & 31st August will be funded from the September following their 3rd birthday.

Should you choose to use their entire early years funding at another facility, any sessions at the pre-school will be charged at the equivalent rate set by Devon County Council.

Helpers’ Rota

We can always do with an extra pair of hands and would like you to volunteer to help at least once per term. You can join us for the whole session to give you a chance to take part in the activities or for 20 minutes before the end of the session to help wash up.

Illness

Please do not bring any child/ren who has had sickness or diarrhoea within the past 48 hours or are suffering from any infectious illness, this includes older children who are off sick from school but cannot be left at home. Also please keep us informed of any infectious illness ‘doing the rounds’.

Key Person

When your child joins the Pre-school s/he will be receive support from an experienced member of staff (known as their Key Person). She will take the time to find out your child’s interests, likes, dislikes & will keep your child’s development records.

Name cards

Every child has their own allocated card with their name and a picture. Upon registration at each session please make sure your child/ren puts their card on the mat provided.

Notice Board

Please keep an eye on the information on the notice board regularly - subjects    vary    from forthcoming events, who’s who and committee details to training     courses,     illnesses going around and items for sale.

Photographs

The pre-school takes photographs of the children at activities to use as evidence for inspections, displays, development records or possibly for inclusion in a local paper if we have a special event. Students may also wish to take photographs for their course work. We will be putting some photos on our web site, but the photo gallery can only be accessed by parents with the use of the password protection system. If this is a problem and you wish your child to be kept out of any photographs that will be used in this way please let us know.

Settling In

Every child is an individual and settles in differently. Parents/carers are welcome to stay with their child at the Preschool until they are happy to be left.

Staff

Please encourage your child/ren to call the staff by their names - we have on our          t-shirts to help with this.

Students and volunteers

As part of our links with the local community, we do have students and volunteers join us at some sessions.

Toys

The bringing of personal toys is discouraged to save any disagreement between children. However, if your child does bring a toy, please tell a member of staff and encourage your child to leave the toy in the kitchen for the duration of the session
